Tom Coronel, Paul Meijer and Jan Jaap van Roon with Porsche at Spa-Francorchamps
FRANCORCHAMPS (5 September 2025) – Tom Coronel calls the second edition of the Michelin 992 Endurance Cup powered by Porsche Motorsport, which will take place this Saturday, 6 September, at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in the Belgian Ardennes, ‘one of the most important races of the year’. Coronel will be at the start with a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, run by Dutch team MDM Motorsport. He will share the car with starting number 127 with Paul Meijer and Jan Jaap van Roon, making the driver line-up identical to last year’s. Back then, Coronel, Meijer and Van Roon finished second overall after a strong race ‘The competition is very strong, but of course we’re going for the cup again,’ said Coronel. Hans Weijs is the fourth driver on the team.
After last year’s successful premiere, Dutch organiser Creventic from Gennep in North Limburg is staging the Michelin 992 Endurance Cup powered by Porsche Motorsport for the second time. The event is a 12-hour race exclusively for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. ‘All drivers are on a level playing field, as the equipment is the same for everyone,’ says Tom Coronel. ‘And that’s on one of the most beautiful circuits in the world, so it’s logical that we wanted to be there again. After the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, this is one of the most important races of the year for us.’
‘Last year was a dream come true for us: taking pole position was already special, the first pole ever at this event,’ says Paul Meijer. “And then to finish second overall with a bronze-rated driver in the car was of course fantastic! We are now competing in the Pro-Am class, which means our bronze-rated driver will be driving a bit more, and we are going for victory in the class.’ Another change from last year is that the Dutch drivers’ Porsche is now being prepared and run by the MDM Motorsport team from Badhoevedorp. ‘We have had good experiences with this team and have already competed in many races together,’ said Coronel.
Jan Jaap van Roon is looking forward to the event: “I think it’s great that there are only 992 Cup cars in the field, and then a twelve-hour race, which is really a battle of attrition. It’s a bit difficult for me to let go of work and focus entirely on the event, but that’s also the main reason for participating. I really hope we can get another podium finish. The competition is very strong, but we also have a strong team.”
When asked about his favourite part of the track, Tom Coronel mentions ‘Pif-Paf’, the double corner combination at the back of the circuit officially named ‘Fagnes’: ‘Right-left, then you brake very hard, just under the bridge, and then you have to hit the kerbstone just right so that you keep that curve, very nice, just not pushing too far for the exit. I always find that a serious challenge!’ Jan Jaap van Roon thinks the ‘Double Gauche’, also known as Pouhon, the double left-hander, is the most beautiful: ‘You have to brake late there and I always look for the right braking point.’ Paul Meijer chooses Blanchimont: ‘You come in at full throttle in sixth gear, a small lift, and then you can go full throttle again. It remains a special corner. I also find Pouhon extremely beautiful.’
Mark Bus, whose team MDM Motorsport is running the Porsche, is looking forward to the race: ‘I am very positive. We have excellent mechanics who work well together, a good driver line-up for this class, and of course it’s also nice that we have an all-Dutch line-up,’ he says. ‘I really appreciate the event as a whole, I like the Creventic races. Endurance races are a team effort, every employee has to do their bit, the pit stops are also important, everything has to be just right.’
On Thursday, the team completed test sessions in preparation for the event. On Friday, there will be 90 minutes of free practice in the morning, followed by qualifying in three heats in the afternoon between 3:25 and 4:30 p.m. This will be followed by a Top 10 Shoot-out for the ten fastest teams from 17:40 to 18:05. On Friday evening, there will be another practice session in the dark from 20:50 to 21:50. On Saturday, cars will line up on the grid 9:00 a.m., with the race starting at 9:45 a.m. and ending at 9:45 p.m. A live stream will be available on the Creventic Motorsport TV YouTube channel.
