For Tom Coronel, 2025 is all about Porsche

Gepubliceerd op 20 March 2025

EEMNES (20 March 2025) – ‘Driving a Porsche is cool, of course, but racing a Porsche is even cooler!’ Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel doesn’t hide his excitement when talking about his racing activities for the 2025 season in which, like last year, the Porsche 911 will be the constant factor. Coronel will be taking part in the endurance races on the famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife, again teaming up with his trusted teammates Jan Jaap van Roon and Paul Meijer. They will also take part in several events organised by Dutch agency Creventic. “We drive one of the world’s most beautiful cars on some of the world’s most beautiful circuits, so what more can we ask for”, says Coronel, who gets his 2025 racing season underway in the Michelin 12H Mugello this weekend.

Coronel enjoyed getting to know the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup last year. Finishing second overall, together with Paul Meijer and Jan Jaap van Roon, in the inaugural Michelin 992 Endurance Cup, the international 12-hour race for Porsche Cup cars organised by Creventic at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, was the highlight. “I am now 53, my hair is getting a bit grey and I am losing my hair, but I still get an incredible amount of pleasure from racing, so I am very happy that I have another great programme for this year, also thanks in part to my loyal partners Ireckonu, Mascot Workwear, Eurol Lubricants and ERU,’ said Coronel.
This weekend Coronel will be in action with Jan Jaap van Roon and Hjelte Hoffner in the Creventic 12-hour race at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello in Tuscany. The team’s car will be run by MDM Motorsport, with whom Coronel has already worked a few times in the past year. “We enjoyed that, so that’s why we’re doing some races with MDM again this year, in addition to this weekend’s race at Mugello, we’ll also be doing the Michelin 992 Endurance Cup at Spa-Francorchamps,” says Coronel. “Of course I’ve known Jan Jaap for years, but I’m also looking forward to racing with Hjelte Hoffner. He comes from the MDM stable and has racked up quite a few kilometres in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe over the past few weeks.”

From the end of April, Coronel and his team-mates will mainly focus on the races at the Nürburgring, culminating in the annual 24-hour race on 21 and 22 June. “On the Nordschleife, we will once again be driving the Porsche from Max Kruse Racing, the team led by Benjamin Leuchter. I will definitely be driving with Jan Jaap and Paul Meijer. The races for the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie are also important in the preparation for the 24-hour race, but we will also be taking to the Nordschleife after June. The plan is to race in NLS for the full season,” says Coronel.

“Spa-Francorchamps and the Nordschleife, the two coolest circuits in Europe, and then also with a Porsche, absolutely fantastic of course”, says Tom Coronel, who is also looking forward to the start of his racing season in Mugello. “Another beautiful circuit, beautiful surroundings and the Italian cuisine is good, too. Only the weather forecast with a lot of rain for the race this weekend is more something you would expect at the Nürburgring, haha! But whatever happens, we will certainly enjoy it again!” The Michelin 12H Mugello is split into two segments: the first part on Saturday from 11.00 to 18.00 and the remaining five hours on Sunday from 9.30 to 14.30.
