[:nl]Zolder, 6 juni 2017 – Voor de derde ronde van het TCR BeNeLux was het gemêleerde en internationale deelnemersveld te gast op de Omloop van Terleamen in het Belgische Zolder. De belangen van Honda werden hier dit keer als enige vertegenwoordigd door Boutsen Ginion Racing met de JAS Motorsport Civic TCR van equipe Benjamin Lessennes/Tom Coronel. Na alle vijf de races mochten zij tijdens de prijsuitreikingen op de hoogste trede van het erepodium staan. Een uniek resultaat dus: 5 uit 5! De 17-jarige Benjamin Lessennes werd daarbij ook nog uitgeroepen tot ‘De Junior van het Weekend’ en Honda Benelux ontving de titel ‘Car of the Weekend’.

In de tussenstand van het TCR BeNeLux bezet Lessennes nu ook de eerste positie met een totaal van 235 punten. Tom Coronel staat derde met een totaal van 195 punten.

Na afloop verklaarde een dik tevreden Tom Coronel: “Zo zie je het natuurlijk graag. Echt alles viel dit weekend op zijn plaats en dan heb je een gouden combinatie. Op de kwalificatie van de 1 uursrace na, hebben wij alles gewonnen. Banden spelen een heel belangrijke rol in de TCR-races. In de 1 uursrace zijn wij dan ook op nieuwe banden gestart en mijn teamgenoot bracht de Civic halverwege met een voorsprong van 7 seconden binnen. Na de verplichte pitstop van 60 seconden ben ik weer uitgegaan en heb de race afgesloten met een voorsprong van twintig seconden. Resultaten die het vertrouwen alleen maar groter maakten. Verder natuurlijk fantastisch voor het team (Boutsen Ginion Racing), met engineer Kevin en Honda Benelux. Op zondag stonden de TCR-sprintraces van 20 minuten op het programma, zowel voor Benjamin als voor mij twee ieder. Bij de start koos ik ervoor om manueel te starten en alle toeters en bellen uit te laten. Dat kostte mij bij de start een plek aan de Peugeot van Kevin Abbring, maar die had ik na een ronde al weer te pakken. Daarna was het zaak om de race constant en zonder al te veel bandenslijtage uit te rijden. Dat lukte en daarmee kon ik als eerste achter de safety car aansluiten voor de tweede race, die direct erna verreden wordt. Daar zit geen tijd tussen, dus je moet je banden echt goed op orde houden. In race twee liep alles super en ook nu viel de Honda op door zijn geweldige tractie in de derde sector. Je liep daar als het ware zo bij de anderen vandaan. Daarmee was mijn derde beker van het weekend een feit. Teamgenoot Benjamin completeerde het succes door de beide andere Sprint-races op zijn naam te schrijven en daarmee het aantal overwinningen op vijf te brengen voor de enige Honda Civic die dit weekend aan de start verscheen. Fijn ook om een dergelijk succes te boeken tijdens een zo druk bezocht raceweekend. We reden dit keer samen met de Blancpain GT Series en ik zag dat er veel Nederlanders op de tribunes zaten. Extra leuk, omdat die mij in het FIA WTCC natuurlijk niet zo heel vaak dicht bij huis zien rijden. Overigens maakt mijn deelname aan dat Wereldkampioenschap voor Toerwagens wel, dat ik de volgende TCR BeNeLux race -ook hier op Zolder- niet zal rijden, omdat ik dan met de ROAL Motorsport Chevy in Argentinië aan het racen ben.”

This time, Boutson Ginion Racing was the only team to represent Honda’s interests with its JAS Motorsport Civic TCR and driver pairing Benjamin Lessennes/Tom Coronel. In all five races, the duo climbed on the top step of the podium for the prize-giving ceremony. A unique achievement: five wins from as many races! In the process, 17-year-old Benjamin Lessennes also was picked as the ‘Junior Driver of the Weekend’ while Honda Benelux picked up the ‘Car of the Weekend’ accolade. In the TCR BeNeLux drivers’ standings, Lessennes is now leading with a total of 235 points. Tom Coronel is third with 195 points.

Afterwards, a visibly happy Tom Coronel commented: “Now this is the way I like it, of course. This weekend, everything worked out perfectly and then, you have a golden combination. Apart from qualifying for the one-hour race, we were on top in every session. In the TCR races, tyres are playing a very important role. In the one-hour race, we started with fresh tyres and my team-mate brought the car into the pits for the driver change at the halfway point with a seven seconds’ lead. After the minimum pit stop time of 60 seconds, I joined the race and I crossed the finish line to win by 20 seconds. Such results really boost our confidence. It is also fantastic for the team, Boutsen Ginion Racing, with engineer Kevin and Honda Benelux. The schedule for Sunday included the TCR sprint races of 20 minutes each, two apiece for Benjamin and myself. At the start, I chose to operate the car manually and switch off all the gizmos. That cost me one position to Peugeot’s Kevin Abbring at the start, but I had caught him again after only one lap. Then, it was all about making it to the finish without too much tyre wear. I managed to do that and I was first behind the safety car for the second race that followed immediately afterwards. There is no time in between, so you really need to look after your tyres. In the second race, everything went perfectly as well and once again, the Honda shone with its superior traction, particularly in the third sector. There, I could pull away from the others every time. Thus, I was able to pick up my third trophy of the weekend. My team-mate Benjamin completed the success by winning the other two sprint races, bringing the total for the only Honda Civic on the grid for this weekend to five. It was also nice to be so successful during an event with such a good crowd. This weekend, we raced on the Blancpain GT Series support bill and I saw many Dutch fans on the grandstands. That was particularly nice because they don’t get to see me racing close to home very often in the FIA WTCC. On the other hand, my participation in the WTCC does mean that I have to miss out on the next TCR BeNeLux round, also here at Zolder, because I will be racing the ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet in Argentina that weekend.”
